The six brands tested are Bambu Lab, Polymaker, Sunlu, Elegoo, Deeplee, and eSun. Each brand offers variations including Basic PLA, PLA Plus (a stronger modified version), and High-speed PLA (suitable for printers reaching 600 mm per minute velocity). All prints were made on a Bambu Lab X1C using a calibration test design, with each print taking between 1 hour 45 minutes and 2 hours to complete.

All six filaments produced excellent overhang results, successfully printing all the way to 80 degrees. Dimensional accuracy across cylinder diameters and rectangle lengths showed minimal variation between brands, with all measurements falling within a small range of the design specifications.

Bambu Lab pink Basic PLA delivered excellent overhang performance and clean bridging with only a few stringers. Sunlu orange High-speed PLA matched the overhang results but showed slightly more stringing and one sagging strand during bridging. eSun yellow PLA Plus achieved the same 80-degree overhang success with bridging quality similar to Sunlu, including one sagging strand and comparable stringing.

Polymaker blue Polylite PLA excelled in bridging quality, matching Bambu Lab’s clean results with minimal stringing, though it did show one loose strand at 60 degrees. Elegoo black PLA Plus reached 80 degrees on overhangs with excellent bridging similar to Polymaker and Bambu Lab, but produced more stringers than other filaments tested. Deeplee sky blue PLA achieved the same overhang success with bridging quality comparable to Polymaker, Bambu Lab, and Elegoo, with stringing levels similar to the Elegoo filament.

Bridging and Stringing Performance

Bridging performance revealed subtle differences between brands. Bambu Lab and Polymaker produced the cleanest bridging with minimal sagging and few stringers. Sunlu and eSun both showed one sagging strand but otherwise acceptable results. Elegoo and Deeplee produced more stringers overall, though bridging quality remained acceptable for both.

These differences are minor enough that they would not significantly impact most printing projects. The variation likely reflects normal batch-to-batch tolerances rather than fundamental quality differences between brands.

Color Options and Availability

Polymaker leads in PLA Plus options with 33 colors, followed by Sunlu at 26. For High-speed PLA, eSun offers the most at 14 colors. Bambu Lab does not currently offer PLA Plus or High-speed PLA variants.

When combining all single-color options across Basic PLA, PLA Plus, and High-speed PLA, Polymaker leads with 72 total options, followed by Sunlu at 65, Elegoo at 59, Deeplee at 45, eSun at 43, and Bambu Lab at 30. These numbers reflect the market as of March 2025 and change regularly as brands update their offerings.
